Syracuse Neighborhoods

UNIVERSITY HILL
The Hill, which lies directly east of Syracuse University and SUNY ESF, is predominantly a residential neighborhood made up of mid-scale early 20th century single-, two- and three-family homes. Off-campus student housing, as well as University faculty and staff populate the University neighborhood. Just walking distance to Syracuse University, SUNY ESF, SUNY Upstate Medical and Crouse Hospital. SU and ESF both have dorms for some of their students. Marshal Street has many restaurants and stores. The University Hill Neighborhood houses Barry Park, which contains a playground, tennis and basketball courts, a baseball field, soccer field, and a large open space for many other actives. During the summer months, many residents use the park for walking, skating and biking. Sherman Park, located at Westmoreland and Tecumseh Avenues are also used by youth for softball and soccer. Morningside Reservoir is situated on top of a drumlin and the residents use the area surrounding the reservoir for jogging, walking, and hiking. The neighborhood also houses Syracuse’s only cooperative grocery store, Syracuse Real Food Cooperative.

WESTCOTT
Westcott Nation is a fun, active, and diverse community. Due to its proximity to Syracuse University, its residents are made up of some SU & ESF students, faculty and staff. There are many young families, as well. On Westcott Street, you'll find flavors from around the globe and boutique shops. The western half of the neighborhood is home to the amazing, one of a kind Thornden Park, where there is an outdoor swimming pool, a wonderful rose garden and an amphitheater that hosts many fun events year round.

ARMORY SQUARE
Looking for a neighborhood where you can live, work and play? Armory Square rests where there was once a historic warehouse district. Many of the warehouses have been converted into multi-use buildings, where the 1st floor is retail or offices and newly renovated apartments on the floors above. Here, you can find many amazing restaurants, pubs, boutique shops and entertainment venues. One of the attractions to this area is the MOST, which stand for the Museum of Science and Technology and is fun for all ages.

FRANKLIN SQUARE
Franklin Square, which is part of the Lake Front neighborhood, it is a short drive to Destiny USA and Onondaga Lake Park. Many of the old industrial buildings have been converted to SoHo-styled loft apartments and office buildings. Bring your four legged friends to Franklin Square Park for a quick walk or let them release energy at the 40,000 square foot Wegmans Good Dog Park.

CLINTON SQUARE
Clinton Square is the historic downtown Syracuse neighborhood. Many outdoor events are held here, including Taste of Syracuse, Empire Brewfest and the New York State Blues Festival. Living downtown allows residents to walk to Armory Square restaurants, cafes and retail. Don't forget to check out the original Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, where you can bring your dog and eat their award-winning BBQ.

INNER HARBOR
Inner Harbor has waterfront access to the Southern end of Onondaga Lake in the City of Syracuse. This modern neighborhood began development in 2012. The new buildings here are designed for multi-use to allow residents a place to shop and work nearby. When completed, there will be hundreds of residential units made up of apartments, townhouses, and condominiums above 150,000sqft of street level retail and restaurants.

TIPPERARY HILL
Known as Tipp Hill, this historically Irish neighborhood is home to the “upside‐down” traffic light and is close enough to hear the music coming from the Blarney Stone. Here, you'll find numerous one family and two family homes to rent, as well as small apartment buildings. On the weekends, you can enjoy the 88‐acre Burnet Park by playing golf, going swimming or ice skating. This park is also home to Onondaga County’s Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

EASTWOOD
Eastwood, in the North East border of Syracuse, is comprised of many early to mid-20th Century bungalow‐style houses. This runner’s paradise features an Olympic-sized running track, as well as trails for hiking, jogging and cross-country skiing. You'll also find James Street, a village-like retail plaza, and Palace Theatre, which was built in 1924 and is now used as movie theater.

MEADOWBROOK
Meadowbrook neighborhood gets is named after the brook that cuts through the center of the neighborhood. The streets are lined with homes built in the mid-20th century and peppered with Arts and Crafts homes designed by architect Ward Wellington Ward. If you are into natural and organic groceries, stop in at the Syracuse Cooperative Market where they have vegan/vegetarian/omnivore deli options.

SALT SPRINGS
Salt Springs neighborhood is bordered by Lemoyne College, Erie Boulevard and the Town of Dewitt. If you'd like to bike to Lemoyne College and own an early-20th Century single family and two family home, then Salt Springs is a great choice.

OUTER COMSTOCK
Outer Comstock is neighborhood with a diverse group of residents, many of whom work at or attend Syracuse University. Residents love the big backyards and nearby bus routes that take you downtown, as well as its safe parks for families to play. Many Syracuse University students live in the large apartment complexes in this neighborhood. Comfort Tyler Park, Danzer's Restaurant and big backyard BBQs in the summer are what make Outer Comstock neighborhood special.
